Art of Honduras
The art of Honduras reflects the colors and the intensity of life in this Central American nation. In the mountain towns what is called "folk art" is produced, sometimes for use in religious festivals. In major cities such as San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa, more sophisticated art is made, often for European collectors who travel to this as-yet untouristed nation to get a feel for its splendid natural beauty and simple life. Painters on the mainland of Honduras are steeped in the culture of Spain, where some of the top artists have gone to school. The Bay Islands, highlighted by Roatan, are just a short distance off the Honduran coast; English is spoken here and the art focuses more on the sea and the sun than on city life.
