Artist Profile: Mauricio Garay

Mauricio Garay, 34, was born in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. He grew up in a family of well-known artists - considered among the best in the country . When he was 10, the young Mauricio decided he was going to follow in the family tradition. He sold his first etching that year, guided by his uncle. Carlos Garay. Mauricio, who likes to say that he inherited his skill from his uncle, produces impressionistic and figurative paintings. Others in his Tegucigalpa School feature scenes from the lush Honduran countryside. The paintings displayed here are all oil on canvas.
